The Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Mathematics and Science Education is an important part of one of Turkey's most prestigious and well-established educational institutions, established within the Faculty of Education. Our department aims to train innovative and contemporary educators with the skills required for the 21st century. We operate to convey the fundamental principles of mathematics and science education and the most up-to-date pedagogical approaches to future teachers.

Mission

Our mission, in line with the general mission of METU Faculty of Education, is to train teachers, researchers, and experts who uphold the basic principles of the Republic, prioritize service to society, and are open to entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary studies. We aim not only to provide our students with textbook knowledge but also to equip them with 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity. By effectively using the latest educational technologies, we ensure that our students become individuals who not only consume technology but also produce it.

Vision

Our vision is to become an exemplary academic center in teacher training in Turkey and worldwide by developing innovative approaches in education and disseminating contemporary teaching techniques in mathematics and science fields. We aim to lead in the formation of educational policies by conducting basic and applied scientific research at national and international levels to improve the quality of education.
